Tenshelf Terms of Service
Last updated: 10 September 2026
1. Who we are
Tenshelf is operated by Carl Doran, trading as an individual (sole trader), of Prime Apartments, 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4FG, United Kingdom ("we", "us", "Tenshelf"). These terms govern your use of tenshelf.com and any related apps (the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Tenshelf.
2. Who can use Tenshelf
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By signing up, you confirm you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
3. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for anything that happens under your account. Let us know straight away if you think someone else has access to it.
You can set your account to public or friends-only, and control the visibility of individual shelves. Content set to public can be seen — and shared — by anyone with the link, including people without a Tenshelf account.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the lists, entries, notes, and photos you add to Tenshelf ("Your Content"). By posting it, you give us a licence to store, display, and distribute it as part of running the Service — for example, showing it to people you've shared it with, or including it in a public shelf link you've chosen to share.
You're responsible for what you post. Don't post anything that:
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights
- is illegal, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or sexually explicit
- impersonates another person or organisation
- contains malware or attempts to disrupt the Service
Anyone — including visitors without an account — can report a shelf or profile that breaks these rules using the report link on that page. We review reports and can remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
5. Duels and voting
The daily duel lets registered users and guests vote on head-to-head comparisons. Votes are tallied publicly (as aggregate results), but we don't publicly attribute an individual guest or account to their specific vote beyond what the feature itself shows. To keep voting fair, we may rate-limit or block votes that look automated or abusive.
6. Third-party content and data
Film, TV, music, and book information shown on Tenshelf (posters, ratings, release years, and similar metadata) comes from third-party catalogues, including The Movie Database (TMDB), MusicBrainz, and Open Library. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. This metadata belongs to its respective sources, not to Tenshelf, and is provided for informational purposes as part of your lists. Full attributions are available at tenshelf.com/credits.
We use TMDB under its free-tier API terms. TMDB's terms restrict free use for projects whose primary purpose is generating revenue for the owner; Tenshelf carries some affiliate links but isn't primarily revenue-driven, so we're proceeding on that basis.
7. Availability and changes
Tenshelf is provided on an "as is" basis. We're a small, early-stage project — we'll do our best to keep things running, but we don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and features may change or be removed as the product evolves.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tenshelf is provided without warranties of any kind, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be excluded under UK law (for example, for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence).
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonably possible.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Tenshelf grows. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and let you know about significant changes via email or a site notice.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
