Tenshelf Privacy Policy

Tenshelf ("Tenshelf", "we", "us") is operated by Carl Doran, trading as an individual (sole trader), of Prime Apartments, 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4FG, United Kingdom.

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and authentication details (handled by our backend provider, Supabase). If you complete your profile, you may also provide a display name, username, avatar photo, short bio, and optionally your sex and birth year (used to personalise your experience — these are optional and never shown to other users beyond what you choose to make public).

Content you create. Your top ten lists, entries, notes, ratings, and any links or photos you add to them.

Social activity. Who you follow and who follows you, your privacy setting (public or friends-only account), duel votes you cast, and comparisons you take part in.

Content reports. If you or another visitor flags a shelf or profile as breaking our rules, we store the report — the reason selected, any details typed, and your account if you were signed in when you reported it — so we can review it. Reports are visible only to Tenshelf admins.

Technical information. Standard web log data (IP address, browser type, device type), and lightweight error reports if something breaks on the site, so we can fix bugs.

Analytics. With your consent (see Cookies below), we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used. This is anonymised/aggregated usage data; we don't use it to build advertising profiles, and it doesn't run at all unless you accept analytics cookies.

Guest duel votes. You can vote in the daily duel without an account. In that case we store the vote and a device/browser identifier to prevent abuse, but no personal information is collected.

We don't collect payment details (Tenshelf doesn't currently charge for anything), and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 16.

• To provide the core service: your account, your lists, duels, and the social features (friends, following, sharing).
• To send you the optional email digest, if you've opted in — every digest email includes an unsubscribe link.
• To review reports of content or accounts that may break our terms, and to keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
• To understand overall usage and improve the product (aggregated analytics only, and only if you've consented).
• To contact you about material changes to the service or this policy.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

• Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage.
• Our email delivery platform — sends the email digest and account emails on our behalf.
• Google Analytics — anonymised usage analytics, only if you've consented.
• The Movie Database (TMDB), MusicBrainz, Open Library — we query these public catalogues to show film, TV, music, and book details on your shelves.

If you make your account or a shelf public, or vote in a duel, other users (and in the case of public shelves, anyone with the link) can see the content you've chosen to share.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Tenshelf or our users.

Our infrastructure provider, Supabase, may host and process your data on servers in more than one country. Where that means data moves outside the UK/EEA, our provider is responsible for putting appropriate safeguards in place to keep it protected to UK GDPR standards.

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep it for legal reasons (e.g. fraud prevention records).

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; delete your data ("right to be forgotten"); export your data in a portable format; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise any of these, email us at privacy@tenshelf.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Tenshelf uses essential cookies/local storage to keep you signed in. We also use Google Analytics (GA4) cookies, only if you accept them via the cookie banner — change your choice anytime via "Cookie settings" in the site footer.
